Helga Nowotny appointed as honorary doctor at UiB

We congratulate Helga Nowotny, former chair of the Holberg Committee, as newly appointed honorary doctor at the University of Bergen.

Thursday 28 May it was announced that former Holberg committee chair, Helga Nowotny are appointed one of four new honorary doctorates at the University of Bergen. The other three being Jon Fosse, Trond Mohn and Walter F. Mondale.

This year, the formal appointment will be part of the opening of the new University Assembly Hall.

An honorary doctorate is the highest honour the university can confer upon a person who is not employed by the University of Bergen (UiB). The honour is awarded for outstanding work to the benefit of research, traditionally to persons who have played an important role to the university.

In the announcement, Rector Dag Rune Olsen, particularly mentioned the work Helga Nowotny has done as member and chair of the Holberg Prize committee 2008-2014. 

Professor Helga Nowotny is professor emerita of Social Studies of Science at ETH Zurich. She is also former president of the European Research Council (ERC) and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
