The Nils Klim Committee Submits its Recommentation

On 17 January, the Nils Klim Committee met in Bergen to discuss this year’s candidates for the Prize and recommend a winner.

The Nils Klim Committee convenes once each year to prepare a reccomendation for the next Nils Klim Prize winner. This year’s January meeting took place at the University of Bergen. Here, the candidates on the short list were discussed, and the Committee arrived on a unanimous recommendation. The recommendation will be submitted to the Holberg Board, which will meet in 16 February to select the winners of the 2017 Holberg Prize and Nils Klim Prize, respectively.

The announcement of the 2017 Laureates will take place at the Library of Humanities, University of Bergen, on 14 March, at 9:00 CET. The event will be live-streamed on the Holberg Prize website.

10 nominations for the Nils Klim Prize

By the 15 June deadline last year, 10 young Nordic researches had been nominated for the Nils Klim Prize. 2016 saw nominations of Icelandic researchers for the very first time. Also a first, theology was one of the academic fields represented. Continuing the trend since the Prize was launched in 2003, most of the nominees were from the humanities or the social sciences.

Nominate a candidate for the 2018 Prize

Scholars holding positions at universities and other research institutions, including academies, are entitled to nominate candidates to the Holberg Prize and the Nils Klim Prize. The deadline for nominations to the 2018 prizes is 15 June, 2017. Further information on nominations to the Nils Klim Prize is available here.
