This lecture by Jürgen Kocka on the history of the European Union and its present challenges was held at the University of Agder on May 5th 2014.
The lecture was part of a series of Holberg Lectures celebrating the 10th year anniversary of the Holberg Prize.
Jürgen Kocka was awarded the 2011 Holberg Prize. He is a historian of modern Germany and Europe and he is particularly interested in comparative approaches, social history and cooperation with the social sciences. From 1973 to 2009 he taught history at the University of Bielefeld and the Free University of Berlin. As a Visiting Professor he teaches regularly at the University of California, Los Angeles and he is presently a Permanent Fellow at the International Research Center re:work at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
