Tasks of the Holberg School Programme Jury

Each year, the Jury selects a limited number of schools (with a maximum of 20) to participate in the programme. Students at the participating schools undertake research projects within subjects relevant to the fields of the Holberg Prize.

The Jury evaluates all submitted research projects, selects three finalists, and decides who is to receive first, second and third prize in the competition. They also select a winner of the Teacher’s Prize, based on submitted teacher reports.

Selection of the jury

The Holberg School Programme Jury consists of a minimum of three members, all recommended by the secretariat and/or former members of the Jury, and appointed by the Board of the Holberg Prize. The members are appointed for periods of four years and are recruited from different institutions of higher learning in Norway and its upper secondary school sector.

In addition to possessing the necessary academic credentials, the members of the Jury should reflect the research fields related to the Holberg Prize, geographical variety and a variety in methodological expertise. It should also be gender-balanced.

The leader of the jury is appointed by the Board of the Holberg Prize at the recommendation of the secretariat.
