This event will feature the 2023 Holberg Prize Laureate Joan Martinez-Alier and other distinguished speakers. They will discuss current global challenges and the role of global political ecology to understand and tackle these.

Political Ecology is a growing topic among the environmental social sciences and environmental humanities. It covers issues in the Global North and the Global South, such as post-growth economics and environmental conflicts and injustices.

In collaboration with Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA‑UAB) and held at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC) in Barcelona, the Holberg Prize will host a discussion on global political ecology and its importance for both Northern and Southern hemispheres. The event will feature the 2023 Holberg Prize Laureate Joan Martinez-Allier, as well as a number of other distinguished speakers.
