Malene Bue at Vennesla Upper Secondary School in Vest-Agder won the Holberg Prize School Project in 2012.
The project “My family during the industrial revolution” illustrates how a family was affected by the industrialization of the shipping industry at the end of the 19th Century, regarding the transition from sailing ships to steam ships. Steam ships created economic problems for the family, at the same time as the transition also had positive aspects, such as more access to food and health improvements. The primary data sources are an intricate collection of 1.st mate Peder Bendix Olsen’s letters to his wife Henriette.
